8th September 2006 - Mayor of Poole Exhibits Her
Friends
The Mayor of Poole, Cllr Mrs Judy Butt,
accompanied by her husband and Consort Mr David
Butt, attended the 30th Anniversary
Exhibition of the Friends of Upton Country Park,
a group in which she has been closely involved
with for many years.
Invited guests, who had over the last 30 years
played a pivotal part in ensuring that the house
is as well kept and inviting as it is today, met
in the Peacock Tea Rooms where a tasty light
supper was being served, all prepared by our
fabulous Tea Room team headed by out very own
Tina Hayter. Mr Brian Galpin , well known local
historian officiated over the commencement of
proceedings and invited the Mayor open the
exhibition. The Mayor gave one of her customary
amusing and anecdotal speeches, when speaking
about her favorite building in Poole.
Cllr Mrs Judy Butt, Mayor of Poole, said "I was
truly honoured to open the exhibition as I was
wearing several hats on this special occasion.
As everyone knows I am a Creekmoor Ward
Councilor and ‘peacock proud' that I am
responsible for overseeing together with my two
Ward colleagues the future of the only Stately
Home in Poole. I also chair the Upton Park
Liaison Forum who have been working very closely
with the ‘Friends of Upton Country Park' in all
dealings with the estate. To be asked as Mayor
to open the exhibition was therefore a
tremendous pleasure. The exhibition is stuffed
full with photographs, pictures and pottery
amongst many other mediums, which tell the story
of the House and Park. The real jewel in the
crown of the exhibition is a scale model of the
house built by one of the ‘Friends', the detail
is fascinating and well worth a look, the
exhibition is on until Sunday 1st
October"
