Bird thieves leave feather trail

Thieves who stole three peacocks from a Dorset country park left a trail of feathers, police said. The intruders forced the door of the peacocks' cage at Upton House, Poole, and stole a peacock and two peahens. Dorset Police said there was a trail of evidence leading from the cage to a getaway vehicle which had been parked outside the gates. The birds would have made a lot of noise, say police The birds were stolen between Monday evening and Tuesday morning, police said. The birds are known to emit a piercing squawk when agitated and are used as guards by some farmers. Upton House Country Park has over 100 acres of garden, open parkland, woodland and shoreline. It is home to several peacocks and even boasts a Peacock Tearooms on the site.
